Richard Hall

Richard is a fully qualified Master Practitioner in Clinical Hypnotherapy, now practising in Ōpunakē, Taranaki.

Richard’s journey to becoming a hypnotherapist.

Richard has two grown up children, Rick and Josh, a grand daughter Alexa and a loving partner, Katrina, who is also the Practice Manager.

Apart from his passion for hypnotherapy, he has had a life long love of motorcycles, and still sticking with two wheels, he has a soft spot for getting out on his mountain bike too. He still enjoys a game of tennis and always up for a challenge, the latest venture that he is looking forward to becoming proficient in, is sea kayaking!

Before arriving to live in NZ 5 years ago, he spent 30 years in the Fire Service in Scotland, attending multiple and various emergency incidents. During that period, he dealt with multiple people, suffering from all types and levels of trauma (note: trauma is not what happens to you, but how your mind and body react to what has happened to you).

While working as a Fire Officer and gaining a qualification in Advanced Trauma, he came to believe there had to be a better way of helping casualties and colleagues deal with their trauma. He began to look at ways to do that.

The breakthrough came in 2002 while attending a work-management course. It was here that Richard was introduced to the concept of Neuro-linguistic Programming or NLP. This teaches individuals to change negative thought patterns, and it included managing trauma and pain. This led him to start the first of his NLP courses in 2003 and to further explore how pain and trauma could be reduced or in some cases even be eliminated.

In 2007, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree (BSc). In particular, this five year period of study, helped him understand the importance of evidence-based research.

He then returned to his NLP studies, but it was not until 2015 when he had a chance meeting with a hypnotherapist that he realised NLP and hypnotherapy are inextricably linked.

He read up on the scientific evidence about hypnotherapy and started his full-time studies in 2018. In 2019, he completed his Master Practitioner in Clinical Hypnotherapy qualification in the U.K.

Since then he has taken multiple coursesand development opportunities, and studied the works of those he considers to be some of the best therapists and counsellors in the world.

Having now moved to Ōpunakē, Richard’s aim is to help people whenever he can, at an affordable price, hence the opening of ‘Taranaki Hypnotherapy’.

Why choose me?

In general, Western medicine treats the symptoms of a problem, and a good hypnotherapist looks to treat the cause.

I have studied the works of people I consider to be some of the best therapists, counsellors and organisations in the world. I am dedicated to giving a personal service to improve people’s lives. As a qualified hypnotherapist and being science degree educated, I use, wherever possible, scientifically tested and proven clinical hypnotherapy to create positive change.

I have also overcome many difficult challenges in life, and in many of my client cases, I am able to show genuine empathy, and experience of change, whilst using the techniques I have learned.
